9:45-11:00
The long-standing debate over America’s global role – whether to sustain deep international engagement or to retrench – has returned with new urgency as Donald Trump begins his second presidency. This panel examines the core arguments laid out in America Abroad, co-authored by Stephen G. Brooks and William Wohlforth, which remains the most comprehensive analysis of U.S. grand strategy to date. The discussion will explore the implications of Trump’s renewed leadership for European security and transatlantic relations. What steps can European nations take to respond to a potential U.S. pullback from its traditional security commitments? And how might Europe adapt to a shifting international order?

Immediate security concerns may distract us from the looming climate crisis. It presents major risks not only in the form of extreme weather events but also indirectly through migratory pressures, broken food supply chains or even by undermining macroeconomic stability. It is characteristic of these impacts that they are cascading and/or non-linear. How well acquainted are we in Czechia and Europe with climate risks and what strategies do different sectors take to enhance preparedness?
